Wireless communication technologies supported with various frequency bands come together to create a smart system of connected devices and sensors involved in the making of a smart home. A connected home allows residents to easily control lighting, play music remotely, and manage temperature and electricity use. However, it is not the same as a smart home where an intelligent system can have the capability to collect data of the living environment and make decisions based on resident’s habits and living patterns. Wireless communication technologies such as WiFi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, Wi-Sun and cellular telecommunication have been widely used to build a smart home system. According to the wireless devices used, antennas with the needed frequency bands need to be installed in the devices to establish the required connectivity.
