Smart Metering
A smart meter is an electronic device that obtains and records information such as consumption of electricity, water or gas, etc. Smart meters communicate the information to the consumer for greater clarity of consumption behavior, and service providers for system monitoring and customer billing.
Communications from the meter to the network may be wireless, or via fixed wired connections. Wireless communication options in common use include cellular communications, Wi-Fi, wireless ad hoc networks over Wi-Fi, wireless mesh networks, low power long-range wireless (LoRa), ZigBee (low power, low data rate wireless), NB-IoT and Wi-SUN (Smart Utility Networks). Appropriate antennas are needed for each wireless communication technology. The installation environment also needs to be carefully reviewed to ensure proper antenna has been used for each installation case.
Why Unictron?
Unictron’s proprietary antennas are applicable to WiFi, LoRa, ZigBee, Wi-SUN, Sigfox wireless communication and can enable more reliable access to smart meter systems.
